Today we hear the parable of the Labourers in the Vineyard. The landowner, whose decision to py all the workers the same was an act of mercy - not injustice - represents God, whose grace and mercy are shed abundantly upon those of his choosing,

There are many aspect to this parable both particular and general.  William Barclay, the well known scripture scholar, in his Daily Study Bible series,  makes this interesting point. 

"Sometimes a man dies full of years and full of honour, with his day's work ended and his task completed.  Sometimes a young person dies almost before the door of life and achievement have opened at all.  From God they will both receive the same welcome.  For both,  Jesus Christ is waiting and for neither,  in the divine sense, has life ended too soon or too late"

This Sunday also marks the start of the Season of Septuagesima.  This is the pre-Lent season consisting of the Sundays of Septuagesima (70 symbolically), Sexagesima (60 symbolically)  and Quinquagesima (50 symbolically) with the following Sunday, Quatragesima being the Sunday that marks the 40 days of Lent.

The marriage in Cana of Galilee is commemorated: the first miracle of Jesus.  Mary,  full of charity, asks of Jesus His first miracle.  Jesus,  at the request of His Mother, anticipates the hour appointed for the manifestation of His Divinity to His Disciples, so that He puts His power at the service of His love.
