Additional Holy Mass on Saturday 20th July 12.30pm - Corey Sharpling

Dear Friends,

Father has very kindly offered to say Mass for us on Saturday 20th July at Sacred Heart, Morriston at 12.30 p.m. on the occasion of what would have been Corey's 22nd Birthday.

We would like to extend this invitation to as many as possible to join us in praying for the repose of the soul of Corey, and look forward to seeing you on that occasion.

Holy Mass on the Fourth Sunday After Pentecost - 7th July 2019

Holy Mass will be celebrated on 7th July at Sacred Heart Morriston, at 4 p.m.  There will be refreshments available in the Sacred Heart Centre after Mass and confessions will be available before and during the Mass.

It is a delight once again to be able to have a Missa Cantata and thanks go to Canon Jason Jones and also to Andrew Butcher who has kindly agreed to serve the Mass on Sunday.

Postponement of Holy Mass of 2nd June

Good Morning,

Due to unforeseen circumstances,  Holy Mass originally scheduled for Sunday 2nd June in the Extraordinary Form at Sacred Heart,  Morriston,  has been postponed to Sunday 9th June at the same time of 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart. 

We look forward to seeing you then,  and a further post will be uploaded nearer the time.

Second Sunday After Easter - 5th May at 4 p.m.

Holy Mass will take place at Sacred Heart, Morriston, Swansea at 4 p.m. this coming Sunday, 5th May with the propers being those of the 2nd Sunday After Easter.

The sacrament of confession is available before and during Holy Mass and there will be refreshments sailable in the Sacred Heart Centre after Mass.

All are welcome.

Thanks are due to Canon Jason Jones for celebrating Holy Mass in the Extraordinary form in our diocese.  For those who are able to attend,  Holy Mass is also offered in the Extraordinary Form at St. Therese in Sandfields, Port Talbot on the 2nd Sunday of every month,  at 6 p.m.  Please contact the parish for further details.

Today is "Good Shepherd" Sunday in the usus antiquior, the 2nd Sunday after Easter, when the gospel is taken from that of St. John, chapter 10, verses 11-16:  

"I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd gives His life for His sheep. But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, who own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees: and the wolf catches and scatters the sheep: and the hireling flees, because he is a hireling, and he has no care for the sheep. I am the good Shepherd: and I know Mine, and Mine know Me. As the Father knows Me, and I know the Father: and I lay down My life for My sheep. And other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd."

Today too in the usus antiquior the Communion antiphon also invokes this imagery: "I am the good Shepherd, alleluia: and I know My sheep, and Mine know Me, alleluia, alleluia."

In the modern Roman liturgy, these references take place on the Fourth Sunday after Easter (one week hence), where the gospel there is taken either from St. John, chapter 10, verses 1-10 (cycle A), St. John 10:11-18 (cycle B) or St. John 10: 27-30 (cycle C). The communion antiphon also, as in the usus antiquior, draws upon this imagery: "The Good Shepherd is risen! He who laid down his life for his sheep, who died for his flock, he is risen, alleluia."

The image of Christ the Lamb, of course, but also of the sheep is something one sees in many of the apse mosaics of the Roman basilicas (as well other churches elsewhere) and I have always quite enjoyed this particular and ancient symbolism.

Accordingly, today offers an opportunity to both provide a visual meditation upon this theme, while also sharing some of the great artistic glories of Christendom.

Holy Mass on the First Sunday of the Passion - April 7th

Holy Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church,  Morriston,  Swansea at 4 p.m. on Sunday April 7th.

The sacrament of confession will be available before and during the first part of Holy Mass

There will be refreshments available in the Sacred Heart Centre after Holy Mass.

Until 1959, the fifth Sunday of Lent was officially known in the Roman Catholic Church as Passion Sunday.  It marked the beginning of a two-week-long period known as Passiontide, which is still observed by traditional Catholics.

In 1960, Pope John XXIII's Code of Rubrics changed the name for that Sunday to "First Sunday of the Passion" bringing the name into harmony with the name that Pope Pius XII gave, five years earlier, to the sixth Sunday of Lent, "Second Sunday of the Passion or Palm Sunday".

Holy Mass on Quinquagesima Sunday 3rd March

Holy Mass will take place on Quinquagesima Sunday,  3rd March at Sacred Heart, Morriston at 4 p.m.

The season of Septuagesima consists of the three Sundays before Ash Wednesday and is regarded by traditional Catholics as a pre-Lent season of preparation

The sacrament of Confession will be available before and during Holy Mass, and there will be refreshments available in the Sacred Heart Centre after Mass.

All are welcome, and it will be good to see as many people as possible supporting this Mass in the Extraordinary Form.  Thanks are due to Canon Jason Jones for offering the Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form on this and each first Sunday of the month.
