Latin Mass Society Events 13th and 14th November

Over the last couple of days, we had the pleasure of attending two events in central London held by the Latin Mass Society.

It was a great opportunity to meet with members of the committee, put faces to names and discuss the matters relevant to ourselves as traditional Catholics within Wales.  We also promised to support each other in prayer.

Cardinal Burke was the guest of honour at dinner held on Friday night.

The Cardinal also presided at the Formal Requiem held for the deceased and benefactors of the Latin Mass Society at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday afternoon.

At the end of the Requiem Mass and before the absolutions, the Cardinal spoke to the congregation about the absolute importance of praying for our deceased family and friends, and how this was inextricably linked to the Eucharist.  The Cardinal spoke about remaining firm in our faith despite the persecution we may face from outside the church and also to some extent within the church too.

Over the weekend, we discussed continuing our close ties between our confraternity in Wales and the work of the Latin Mass Society.  We hope to attend another event, perhaps the representatives meeting, in 2016 and to suggest that an event takes place in between ourselves and central London to enable more people to participate.   We may also in the future join with our friends in the Cardiff Diocese for a larger event.

Overall , this was a blessed , encouraging and significant weekend.

All Saints' Day, also known as All HallowsDay of All the Saints,[3]Solemnity of All Saints,[4] or Feast of All Saints[5] is a solemnitycelebrated on 1 November by the Roman Catholic Church and various Protestant denominations, and on the first Sunday after Pentecost in Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, in honour of all the saints, known and unknown. The liturgical celebration begins at Vespers on the evening of 31 October and ends at the close of 1 November. It is thus the day before All Souls' Day.

In Catholic theology, the day commemorates all those who have attained the beatific vision in Heaven. It is a national holiday in many historically Catholic countries. In the Catholic Church and many Anglican churches, the next day specifically commemorates the departed faithful who have not yet been purified and reached Heaven. Christians who celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day do so in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful spiritual bond between those in heaven (the "Church triumphant"), and the living (the "Church militant"). Other Christian traditions define, remember and respond to the saints in different ways; for example, in the Methodist Church, the word "saints" refers to all Christians and therefore, on All Saints' Day, the Church Universal, as well as the deceased members of a local congregation, are honored and remembered.[10]

Mr. Richard Collins Anniversary 11th October 2015

We remember at this time of year the late Mr. Richard Collins.

Richard was a supporter of the Traditional Mass within the Menevia Diocese , and provided much assistance to various aspects of the return of the Traditional Mass to the Diocese.

This included setting up and maintaining the communications links and website to enable the faithful to keep in touch with activities in the diocese, fundraising support for the young people and the training of alter servers. In fact, he trained our son Corey and faithfully worked with Corey to enable him to serve the Mass.

Richard also reached many people through his blog "Linen on the Hedgerow".  Many of us will have enjoyed his humour, wit and his thought provoking posts.

We are grateful for all the effort Richard went to in this regard. We continue to pray for Richard and his family , especially at this time, and remain thankful for his support and friendship towards us and all who supported the Traditional Mass in Menevia.

Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Taper

Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
The pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Taper was a great success and many thanks to all who took part. We are indebted to the new Rector of the Shrine, Father Philip Harries for his warm welcome and to Father Jason Jones who offered the Holy Mass.
After some words of welcome from Father Harries, the pilgrimage began with the lighting of the taper in Our Lady’s hand accompanied by the hymn O Holy Mother of the Taper.  This was followed by a wonderful Missa Cantata and our thanks go to the Newcastle Emlyn Schola for the plainchaint propers and the Cum Jubilio  Mass setting. It is a real blessing to have such a choir in a very rural part of West Wales.
We were also blessed to have two servers (Corey and Seamus) who did a fine job and served with great reverence and dignity.
Following Mass, the pilgrims gathered for lunch and refreshments in the hall where we were very well looked after by the Shrine hospitality team. After plentiful cups of tea and slices of cake, we returned to the church for Benediction and the Rosary.
The shrine hymn, Dear Mother of Our Saviour Christ completed our pilgrimage and as we "bid Our Lady's Shrine farewell" we are already planning our return visit in 2016.
