Attende Domine (Hearken O Lord)

R. Hearken, O Lord, and have mercy, for we have sinned against Thee.
Crying, we raise our eyes to Thee, Sovereign King, Redeemer of all. Listen, Christ, to the pleas of the supplicant sinners. R.
Thou art at the Right Hand of God the Father, the Keystone, the Way of salvation and Gate of Heaven, cleanse the stains of our sins. R.
O God, we beseech Thy majesty to hear our groans; to forgive our sins. R.
We confess to Thee our consented sins; we declare our hidden sins with contrite heart; in Thy mercy, O Redeemer, forgive them. R.
Thou wert captured, being innocent; brought about without resistance, condemned by impious men with false witnesses. O Christ keep safe those whom Thou hast redeemed. R.

Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2nd February

The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Holy Mass will take place at Sacred Heart R.C Church ,  Morriston, Swansea on Sunday 2nd February at 4 p.m.

The propers of the Holy Mass will be for the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary,  which is otherwise known as Candlemas.

"The feast of Candlemas, which derives its origin from the local observance of Jerusalem, marks the end of the Feasts included in the Christmas cycle of the Liturgy.  It is perhaps the most ancient festival of Our Lady, commemorating not only the obedience of the Blessed Virgin to the Mosaic Law in going to Jerusalem forty days after the birth of her child, making the accustomed offerings,  but also the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple, and the meeting of the Infant Jesus with the old man Simeon, the Occursus Domini, as the Feast was anciently termed".

This is the principle theme of the liturgy today , Jesus taken to the temple to "present Him to the Lord"

External Solemnity of the Epiphany - Sunday 5th January 2020

Holy Mass - External Solemnity of the Epiphany

The External Solemnity of the Epiphany will be celebrated in the Extraordinary Form at 4 pm on Sunday 5th January 2020.

At the end of Holy Mass,  the traditional prayers and the blessing of the Epiphany Chalk will take place,

May we also take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year and thank you for your support of the Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form within the Diocese over the last year.

On the feast of the Epiphany,  it is traditional for chalk to be blessed so that the faithful may mark the names of the magi over their doors as a witness to their faith and protection against evil.

Prayer:
P: Our help is in the name of The Lord.

All: Who made heaven and earth.

P: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.

Bless, + O Lord God, this creature chalk to render it helpful to men. Grant that they who use it in faith and with it inscribe upon the entrance of their homes the names of thy saints, Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar, may through their merits and intercession enjoy health of body and protection of soul. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
The chalk is sprinkled with holy water.
