Holy Mass - External Solemnity of the Epiphany
The External Solemnity of the Epiphany will be celebrated in the Extraordinary Form at 4 pm on Sunday 5th January 2020.
At the end of Holy Mass, the traditional prayers and the blessing of the Epiphany Chalk will take place,
May we also take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year and thank you for your support of the Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form within the Diocese over the last year.
On the feast of the Epiphany, it is traditional for chalk to be blessed so that the faithful may mark the names of the magi over their doors as a witness to their faith and protection against evil.
Prayer:
P: Our help is in the name of The Lord.
All: Who made heaven and earth.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Bless, + O Lord God, this creature chalk to render it helpful to men. Grant that they who use it in faith and with it inscribe upon the entrance of their homes the names of thy saints, Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar, may through their merits and intercession enjoy health of body and protection of soul. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
The chalk is sprinkled with holy water.
