Fundraising for Chartres

This year the Confraternity hopes to be able to assist with the funds necessary for three or more of our young people to take part in the Chartres Pilgrimage.

How wonderful to have the chance of embedding the seed of Faith in a person by aiding them to participate in what must be one of the most deeply spiritual pilgrimages of our times?

To this end we have opened a fundraising page to enable those who wish to make a donation, to do so easily.

There is no pressure to do so, it is a matter for one's private conscience. Contribute if you wish to, but, equally, do not contribute if you do not wish to; there are many financial pressures on all of us at present.

The Dedication of St Michael the Archangel

St Michael in the Japanese style*

The Mass in the Extraordinary Form next Sunday (29th September) will be at St Benedict's Church, Sketty, Swansea at 3pm.

It is the feast of the Dedication of St Michael the Archangel and Holy Mother Church, being under attack on all sides, needs his intercession perhaps more now than at any other time in history.

St Michael is, of course, next to Our Lady, the main opponent to Satan and this prayer is the one to pray....

Holy Michael Archangel, defend us in the day of battle, be our safeguard and protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust down into hell Satan and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

* From the works of US based artist, Daniel Mitsui. Please remember the Mitsui family in your prayers as they struggle with a serious pregnancy issue.

Daniel's cards, original drawings and limited edition prints may be purchased online and make excellent gifts.

Vigil Mass - Saturday 31st August

Please note, this Latin Mass will be at The Sacred Heart, Morriston, near Swansea at 5pm.

St. Raymond Nonnatus, Patron of Expectant Mothers, Newborn Babies

The saint of the day for 31st August is St. Raymond Nonnatus.

Raymond was born at Portella, Catalonia, Spain in 1204, the son of wealthy parents. He was delivered by caesarean section when his mother died in childbirth. Hence his name non natus(not born). In his childhood, he seemed to find pleasure only in his devotions and serious duties. His father, sensing that Raymond was drawn to religious life, ordered him to manage one of the family farms. Raymond readily obeyed but spent his time with the shepherds and workers, studying and praying until his father abandoned the idea of making his son a worldly success.

Raymond later joined the Mercederians, which was founded by St. Peter Nolasco, who devoted to ransoming Christians captured by the Moors. He succeeded Peter as chief ransomer and went to Algeria to ransom slaves. He remained as hostage for several slaves when his money ran out and was sentenced to be impaled when the governor learned that he had converted several Mohammedans. He escaped the death sentence because of the ransom he would bring, but was forced to run the gauntlet. He was then tortured for continuing his evangelizing activities but was ransomed eight months later by Peter Nolasco.

On his return to Barcelona, he was appointed Cardinal by Pope Gregory IX. He died the following year in 1240 and was canonized in 1657.

Patronage: childbirth; children; expectant mothers; falsely accused people; fever; infants; midwives; newborn babies; obstetricians; pregnant women.

And please pray for peace in Syria and an end, not a beginning, to the bombing...

God of Compassion,
Hear the cries of the people of Syria,
Bring healing to those suffering from the violence,
Bring comfort to those mourning the dead,
Strengthen Syria’s neighbors in their care and welcome for refugees,
Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms,
And protect those committed to peace.

God of Hope,
Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies,
Inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria,
And give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all.

We ask this through Jesus Christ,
Prince of Peace and Light of the World,
Amen.

Petition: For the people of Syria, that God may strengthen the resolve of leaders to end the fighting and choose a future of peace.
We pray to the Lord…

Latin Mass in Menevia....

...next Sunday 28th July, will be at St Joseph's Cathedral, Swansea at 12 noon.

GOSPEL

At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others.

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one was a pharisee, and the other a publican.

The pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give Thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers; as also is this publican.
I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess.

And the publican standing afar off would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven, but struck his breast saying: O God, be merciful to me a sinner.

I say to you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Petitions to St Peter and St Paul

O
holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, I choose you this day and forever to be my special patrons and advocates; thee, Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles, because thou art the Rock, upon which Almighty God hath built His Church; thee, Saint Paul, because thou wast fore-chosen by God as the Vessel of election and the Preacher of truth in the whole world.
Obtain for me, I pray you, lively faith, firm hope, and burning love; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience in adversity, humility in prosperity, attention in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the will of God and perseverance in the grace of God even unto death; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be able to overcome the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil, and may be made worthy to appear before the chief and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth for endless ages, to enjoy His presence and love Him forever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

V. Thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
R. They shall be mindful of Thy name, O Lord.

Let us pray:

O God, Whose right hand raised up blessed Peter, when he walked upon the water and began to sink, and thrice delivered his fellow Apostle Paul from the depths of the sea, when he suffered shipwreck: graciously hear us and grant, by the merits of them both, that we also may attain unto everlasting glory.
Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen

This is the image of our queen

May is one of the months dedicated to our blessed mother, Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth.

This is the image of our Queen
Who reigns in Heaven above;
Of her who is the hope of men,
Whom men and angels love!
Most holy Mary!

This homage offered at the feet
Of Mary's image here
To Mary's self at once ascends
Above the starry sphere.
Most holy Mary!

How fair soever be the form
Which here your eyes behold,
Its beauty is by Mary's self
Excell'd a thousandfold.
Most holy Mary!

Sweet are the flow'rets we have culled

This image to adorn;
But sweeter far is Mary's self,
That rose without a thorn!
Most holy Mary!
